Lions, Tigers, Bears, Spirits!

What really goes on while we’re sleeping? I often ponder that question, seeking a logical explanation, as I rise daily with the sun after a sleepless night. I recap the previous night, and all the activities that led to the exhaustion seeping out of the pores of my body. The flickering lights of the television and cupful of sand that “the SandMan” poured into my eyes are the only recollections that cross my sleepy mind, until I look downward at my twisted feet entangled in the sheets. My memory is ignited as I remember the three instances throughout the night when I awoke several times from my body tossing and turning continuously over my 100-thread count sheets – (yes, I know 100-thread count and not 300 count at least? It’s a RECESSION!) I remember instantly, my SPIRIT was in a spiritual battle throughout the midnight hours, protecting me from the lions, tigers, and beastly bears that enter the realms of our world, my home – my sanctuary. My SPIRIT hovers over my flesh every night as I sleep, camouflaged in all black, protecting me from every ill spirit that reeks of terror, and destruction, attempting to unleash a ball of destruction. I see why some nights my sleep is more intense and deep – the type of sleep where you can actually feel yourself waking up but something is preventing you from opening your eyes or even speaking. You feel your mouth moving and your heart rate intensifies as your body is weighed down by an indescribable power that isn’t harmful, but protective. Those are the nights when my spirit has traveled further away from my flesh to battle distant forces that are light years away from reaching my sanctuary.

Every night, between 2:30 – 4:00am, I awake instantly like clockwork, and though I am only awake for a few minutes, it is long enough to realize that something is different. My spirit takes flight from my flesh just as my mind enters the R.E.M. state of sleep. Into battle, she guards my soul, and throughout the attacks, she’s feeding me internal ammunition to download when my flesh is active – just in case I have to battle up when the moon fades away and the sun awakes.

So waking up in the morning from a restless night of sleep isn’t hard on my body. See I forgot to mention – my face gleams bright, with a reflection of renewed strength sparkling in the corner of my eyes. I welcome those adventurous nights of tossing and turning – it’s the morning that I wake up from a night of uninterrupted sleep that would concern me, as I wonder what really happened while I slept peacefully.
